After Newtown, I changed how I did my “yard duty” at work. My yard duty consists of standing with the kindergarten class until the teacher arrives. Before Newtown, I used to simply stand there, anxiously waiting until my time was over and I could return to my mounds of consutations and paperwork. After Newtown, I placed a chair at the head of the lines – one line for girls and one line for boys – sat and read them a story. It was great for both the kids and for me. Hopefully, it made the kids feel a little safer and the parents a little less anxious about dropping them off. Now I look forward to my yard duty.

      Hi Lois,
I used to do yoga when doing yard duty with the first graders, as my old tired body needed stretching. The little ones joined in and
loved it when I was there, doing the “statues”~~it seemed to help the
      develop balance, mindfulness, calm breathing….
