PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
April 1 will begin my fourth year as President of Congregation B’nai Israel. Thank you for this great honor. I accept the responsibility with open arms and am happy to do the job. I enjoy working with the people of B’nai Israel, our passionate and visionary Rabbi David White, our dedicated Officers and Directors, the engaged and involved Religious School parents and teachers and our supportive administrator. All of you, the members of B’nai Israel who see our synagogue as your “home away from home” and your “other family”.
Our synagogue is here for us all and the president and the Board are here to serve you, to hear you and to work with you in leadership, partnership and friendship. Today and tomorrow, I need your help. Yes, I will be asking for your help. This year I would like to see every member of Congregation B’nai Israel volunteer to be on one or two committees. Look at the second page of our membership directory. There you will find a list of the committees. Find a committee that sparks your interest, then let me know. When the new term begins in April, I will appoint committee members.
The purpose of Congregation B’nai Israel is to fulfill the responsibility given to us by Moses, to perpetuate the Jewish Community. We do this by providing our members with opportunities for worship, assembly and education; to bring our members into connection with God; to minister to our members during their times of spiritual need and to motivate our members to manifest their faith and values through religious observance, social action and acts of compassion.
Membership growth and financial stability has to be our focus right now. Growth will afford us a greater measure of financial stability and gives us more options in the future. As I said earlier, I need your help.
Friends, I really am excited to begin my next term and I want to thank the Officers and Board of Directors for their support and faith in me. I also want to thank my darling wife, Nieves, for fully supporting my decision to accept this position. She is a great “First Lady”.
Over the coming months I will be conducting a listening tour, meeting with each of the committees and I want to hear from all of you. If you have ideas or issues you would like to discuss, please contact me. I look forward to you joining me in this exciting B’nai Israel journey in 2014 and beyond.
