PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE September 2019
L’shanah tovah!! As we continue attempting to work together and supporting each other, we’re getting ready to celebrate the New Year. Rosh Hashanah begins on the 29th of September. We will start with apples/honey/champagne reception at 7 PM on Sun. The invitations have come out including schedules, honors during the services, guests, and a form to submit the info for our new directory. This last will be particularly welcome.
The religious education committee wants to increase the advertising in order to get new members (above and beyond the 2 students who came last week). Sharon Crenshaw has stepped down from her paid position as supervisor to the school, due to the small numbers. She feels she can still do the position as a volunteer. The finance committee is beginning the big push for dues, and special wishes for contributions over the High Holy Days (HHD). These special requests include painting, security doors, school kids recreational facilities and an increased Wifi presence for security. Our big want this year if for an official ADA-endorsed handicapped bathroom.
The Program and Events committee is working on individual events – the classes by the Rabbi and other teachers for the fall term. Reminder that The Special Events” Form is available, and must be turned in a month in advance of any planned activity. Membership committee announced that we now have a total of 53 families in CBI. We voted to extend Lifetime membership to Pearl Rothman, and we’d like to extend it to other senior members as well.
Membership currently has 53 families. We are looking at former members who are no longer with us to possibly increase our membership. The Building and Grounds committee has done a lot of work beautifying the grounds. For this we can thank our volunteers and helpers.
The security committee is focused on talking, watching and checking members and non-members attending HHD services. They stated that gun-training is a problem due to the size of our group, but we do plan to use a trained security outfit during our High Holy Days Services. We are having board members sit on the bima during services and we will keep things locked when we are not there.
Old Business concerns the HHD. Katya Mayzeles is coordinating the starting reception at 7 on 9/29. Please volunteer to help her. Speaking of food, I am in charge of the break-the-fast celebration. Never having done this before, I need all the help I can get. THIS IS AN IMPASSIONED PLEA FOR HELP!
