President’s Message July, 2012
This week’s Torah Portion is Korach. The story of the great rebellion or mutiny against Moses by his cousin Korach.
When people ask me ” How is it going being President of Congregation B’nai Israel?”, I think of Korach and reply “No rebellion yet, so it is going well”.
One lesson I take from this Portion, and have used over the years, is when Moses was confronted by Korach and did not know what to do, he prayed.
This is great advice, in time of doubt, pray. It can’t hurt.
Earlier this month, we held our Congregational Meeting. This meeting focused on the presentation of the budget for the upcoming year. I want to thank the Officers and Directors for their efforts in maintaining our community and special thanks to our Financial Committee for presenting the budget.
We have become known as a warm welcoming place and I want to ask all of our members to reconnect with B’nai Israel in ways that will enrich your lives and those of others in our community. We are a community that cares about our members and always seeks to grow in strength and quality, to be better tomorrow than we are today
We have much to be proud of, celebrate and enjoy, from ongoing services and weekly programs to special events and learning opportunities, concerts and happenings not to be missed! If you’ve not come around for awhile, please don’t hesitate to do so now, and reinvent your connection to our wonderful synagogue community. Perhaps you have a skill or talent to share as a volunteer or on a committee. Join us at services and stay around afterward to come together at the community oneg or kiddush. You will meet someone new and make a connection you might not have expected. We need your help to keep our community strong, and welcome your participation in ways new and old. Please let me know how we can help you connect to our community.
